Structured National Cricket Tourism Policy can ensure standardised tourism offerings

A comprehensive Cricket Tourism Policy is the need of the hour to envision India as an important sports tourism destination worldwide. Debjit Dutta, Director & CEO, Impression Tourism Services, India said “MoT must proactively co-develop a National Cricket Tourism Strategy with BCCI and IATO. A structured policy can ensure long-term planning, standardised tourism offerings, and coordinated campaigns that turn matches into multidimensional visitor experiences. Many countries have institutionalised sports tourism with joint planning between tourism boards, organisers, and hospitality players. Tokyo 2020 Olympics showcased excellent coordination between public infrastructure, cultural storytelling, and private-sector readiness. Similarly, UK’s ‘Cricket and Countryside’ programmes offer fans heritage, matchday, and leisure in a single journey. India must similarly move from event-first to experience-first models.”
