DS Group expands Radisson Blu Guwahati with a 25,000 sq ft convention centre and 85 new rooms, addressing a long-standing gap in the Northeast’s convention and large-event infrastructure.

Large-scale meetings and weddings have long been constrained in Northeast India by limited integrated venue and accommodation options. DS Group’s latest expansion at Radisson Blu Guwahati — featuring the region’s largest pillar-less convention centre and an increase to 280 rooms — aims to close this infrastructure gap and strengthen the city’s role as a business and cultural gateway for the region.

The property now includes a 25,000 sq ft purpose-built convention facility, anchored by a 15,000 sq ft pillar-less hall with capacity for 1,500 guests. The scale, flexibility and integrated accommodation offering place the hotel among the few convention-ready assets in Northeast India capable of hosting multi-day conferences, policy events, weddings and large-format functions.

Guwahati has emerged as a critical administrative and economic anchor in the region, driving demand for high-capacity venues supported by reliable accommodation. DS Group’s investment aligns with this demand cycle, combining market opportunity with the company’s broader hospitality growth strategy.

Enhancing regional competitiveness through capacity and product scale

The addition of 85 rooms — expected to be operational by end-2026 — strengthens the hotel’s ability to support large groups without dispersing demand across multiple properties. Integrated room-and-event capability is particularly important for corporate, government and social events seeking a consolidated host venue.

DS Group aims to leverage this expansion to reposition Radisson Blu Guwahati as a preferred destination for MICE, cultural and business gatherings. Speaking on the development, Nathan Andrews, business head – hospitality, DS Group, said: “DS Group’s expansion aims to reposition Radisson Blu, Guwahati, as a preferred destination for business and leisure events, leveraging the city’s evolution as a gateway to the Northeast. By focusing on personalised service, authentic local experiences and a tranquil ambience, the property can continue to serve diverse travellers while attracting a new segment of business, policy and cultural events.”

Investment reflects DS Group’s long-term hospitality growth strategy

The development in Guwahati sits within DS Group’s plan to expand its hospitality portfolio across high-growth Tier I and Tier II cities through asset management and brand partnerships. The company intends to double its room inventory by 2029, supported by an investment commitment of INR1000 crore funded through internal resources and strategic collaborations.

The group’s current hospitality portfolio includes six properties across Corbett, Nainital, Guwahati, Jaipur, Kolkata and Bengaluru. Upcoming expansion is set to strengthen its presence in the North and East, with particular focus on the Northeast, where supply gaps and rising tourism potential create favourable conditions for new hospitality assets.

A strengthened platform for regional tourism and events

As the Northeast continues to gain visibility among domestic and international travellers, modern event-capable hotels play an important role in enabling tourism, government outreach and industry conferences. The expanded Radisson Blu Guwahati enhances the region’s capacity to host such activities while contributing to DS Group’s broader effort to build a diversified, sustainable hospitality portfolio.
