100 historic forts and havelis spread around Uttar Pradesh are being considered as possible venues for destination weddings, said Mukesh Meshram, Director General, UP tourism department and Secretary, Tourism and Culture, Govt. of Uttar Pradesh. “The first-ever Wedding Conclave in Agra is a start in the right direction as we have identified at least 100 historic forts and havelis to be renovated for destination weddings in UP. Due to improved district connectivity, UP receives more than 32 crore visitors each year. The rural areas of the Agra and Mathura districts are attracting attention as potential wedding locations. 18 of the 24 Jain religious Teerthankars have locations in Uttar Pradesh,” said Meshram.
